Point is to let people who have no other network than other criminals and no other skill than do crime learn a craft and learn how normal society works so they got a better chance at getting and keeping a job and keep up a non-criminal life when they get back out of prison.
It is a sad fact that criminals often go straight back to their old ways when leaving prison. Often because they see no other alternative.
The prison is intended for and will in time be for norwegian citizens who can be helped to work normally instead of taking up their old ways. Right now, it is regretably full of people who are just going to be sent out of Norway.
There is no such thing as a criminal mind, criminal human nature, it's simply the way we are educated.
There are also the sick people, with severe psychological illnesses and they have to be well taken care of, well cared for in hospitals.
Take the poverty, chauvinism, and monetary system (money) out of the equation, give people an education based on research and technical knowledge, and they would behave very differently.
And use those NEW people to take care of our sick and ill ones. They would be capable of relevant research on how to cure illnesses, how to create things and how to keep us from killing or maybe literally eating each-other like zombies.
This prison is just one step closer to human understanding, however this is the LEAST of our problems.
We don't need to "upgrade" our prisons, what we DO need to do is we need to take out the cause that's leading to this sick behavior just as stated above.
So overall, I think this may be a sick product of a sick and most important of all: BLIND, maybe even RETARDED society.
In Norweay, we use our prisons for rehalibitation. Afer all, the prisoners will some day have to return to society... However, some criminals are mentally ill or really dangerous, and they don't stay in prisons like this. Every ssociety has a need for maximim ssecurity prisons, so do we i Norway. That said, most people behind bars i Norway are not ethnically norwegians... And in this prison in Halden, all prisoners are foreign criminals waiting to be transported out of our ounrty.
I'm from norway and this is sick. Not a good use of taxpayer money. Prisoners should be locked up in a cell for they're crimes and not be sent on vacation. Right now it's full of foreigner waiting to be sent back to their country. but soon it will be filled with addicts and white trash norwegians who normally lives in a crappy apartement not nearly as nice as this. This is not rehab, this SPARTA!!! oh, I meant vacation..
I wouldn't agree. I lived in Norway for 3 years (went to school there) and even though I'm East European I never went to jail . That being said, only idiots go to jail, anywhere in the world, and especially in Norway! Social help, employment market and EVERYTHING else is sooo good in Norge that only retards would do something stupid and end up in jail. It's easy to get a job, even with high school, and the paychecks are good enough. I just don't get it... And, even though I was a foreigner in Norway I vote for immediate transport out of the country with the first crime committed...
That prison is about 20 minutes by car from where i live. Iknow that our country`s seniors that live in a retirement home wants to do a crime so they end up in Halden prison so they can live their last years of life in a better way than in the retirement home.. Thats says alot if you ask me
