It's clear the owl in #27 was scolded in hunting practice by the other owls, spotted the deer, and thought: "This will show them!"

#45 This allways annoyed me but there is an actual reason for it. Ancient Romans did this as well on their Sun Clocks because IV was short for Iuppiter, hence a godly meaning and therefore not to be misused on a worldy thing. It might be the origin in doing so. Still annoying.
