I made this collection of photos about different constructions that are sometimes funny and sometimes look stupid. Looking at these pictures you can ask yourself where the limit of human silliness is.
I recalled the movie IDIOCRACY while looking at the pics- wondering -how is it possible? What were they thinking?! Then I read the comments and it became painfully clear: the peaople who built it ( ) are the same people who post comments like these: etc.
some are just pure stupidity,,,,,,,some where the builder had to make a decision,,some are humour based,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, some are obviously a mistake,,,,,,,,,,the construction industry makes no more mistakes than any other,,,,,,,,but when an error/ blah blah is made, it is obvious to see, unlike an office mistake which is hidden and often far more costly
Most are legit and are some serious mistakes or just plain stupidity. Ones like the two dump trucks actually are miss categorized as that was the result of a partial land slide of the road coming out of an open pit mine or his load shifted going up the incline causing his truck to tip backwards and the same happened to the driver behind him.
The rail line pic is also in the wrong category as it is the result of ground shift after an earthquake.
I thought the swing house was kinda cool. And the toilet with the seat chained down? By Golly, that SOB ain't gonna leave THIS seat up now!!!!! But my favorite was the air conditioner setting on what looks like beer cartons!? That's just stooooooopid! Guy must have emptied the case just before he installed the unit!
title is exagerated...not all is stupid but just mere coencidence, others seem like the constructors are fazed with some limitation and had to just work around it.
Hey there! I just wanted to say until you live in Russia for few years you would not understand Russians or other nationalities like China etc. and why things happening this way... The simple answer is the survival! Most of the time It's not the construction problems but people who don't have enough (like an aircondition unit) to pay to construction people for proper installation. Therefore they buy the unit and install it themselves with some creative thinking to get it working! As to other moments like "funny balconies" that's a new wave - those wealthier people trying to get their apartments bigger or have more privacy. There is hardly anyone who would come and fine you for doing that. And even if someone comes you just give bribes to the right people and they close their eyes on it... Thus people feel free to do things they want in Russia... Here comes selfishness as well as others. Cheers
Hope you understand now why they look funny to you ;)
Many are obviously located in Asia, particularly China, where nobody gives a damn about construction.
I've lived in China. Only for a year, but enough that I was able to observe a construction site near where I lived, and the stuff that went on, was horrendous.
Things go up very, very fast, and if mistakes happen...oh well....
If something falls down, you simply build it back up again. While at the same time eating your sandwich, living on-site, fucking your wife, or your friend's wife, and tearing down half that you've built.
Some of these make sense actually. Some is new construction on top of old work like the RR tracks under the doorway. Possibly an old RR depot building modified in recent years after the tracks were no longer being used. There's plenty of those here on base at APG.
The stairs that lead up to a wrought iron fence, there's something similar in Towson, next to the Towson mall off of the Joppa Road entrance behind some apartment buildings. Apparently people were using the old steps as a shortcut and some apartment residents complained.
Some of the stuff with the toilets are obviously rigger-nigged (some of you'll get that) and some are just fakes.
These PICTURES should be part of Lessons 101 in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental, Urban Planners, Interior Designers, as well as Art Schools World Wide.
The wooden room overhanging the old stone building is intentional (26th pic from the bottom). The building probably used to be a mill, and inside the room would be a pulley system, which was used to hoist sacks of grain up to the top of the mill. This was done as gravity was used in the milling of the grain to make flour.
the 1 with the pole in the driveway i helped concrete the slab on that 1 its Rockhampton Queensland on farm street. and we brought it up with the buliders and they said oh well. The big surprise is the fact that i found this on a random site looking for photshop tuts.
Legit pics or not, after 22 years as architect, 16 as constructor of my own designs, humbly I'm gonna quote the phrase of Mr Gump and I'll add 2 objectively selected words. THAT SHIT DO HAPPENS.
The one with the railway tracks being bent all out of shape - that wasnt a mistake, that was caused by an earthquake, that's how much the ground moved!
A lot of these are easily explained and NOT bad construction. New construction often times does not include getting rid of old, such as new stairways over old ones or closing off doors/balconies without removing other things.
Others of these are well-known photoshops.
Still others are mere accidents. The wavy rail lines was the result of an earthquake. The roller-into-car and shovel-onto-car are obvious accidents.
the bricked up window was because in the past, people had to pay a rent for each window they had so people without enough money bricked their windows up - 12 year old
The rail line pic is also in the wrong category as it is the result of ground shift after an earthquake.

Overall, terrible attempt at a list like this...
